Why cancer, Lord? Is there not an easier way to die? I mean, seriously, rounds of fire through the veins and then pointed directly at the spot. I don’t doubt you have a purpose. But my friend doesn’t seem to understand. So, I’m asking for a friend.
Lord, why do you take people at what seems to be an early age and leave others to a really old age? Children do not get to experience life before they are gone. People who seem to want to harm others are left on this earth for a good length of time. Friends who are my age have their parents and grandparents, but I do not. I find a little comfort in Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” You see, my friend really wants to know. So here I am asking for a friend.
How are you so patient, Lord? I think I am good on this one. But my friend wants to know why haven’t you fix the issues here? I see their point. Violence and crimes seem to be out of control. We study the stories in the Bible about Sodom & Gomorrah, you seemed to be finished with them pretty quickly. Are we not worse than they were? I could list the sins as a comparison, if you would like.
Why can we not see the path you have chosen for us so clearly and earlier in our lives? My friend and I were just talking about this the other day. I told her because she needed to be in scripture more. But clearly, she failed to understand that point. So, I am once again, asking for a friend.
Why senseless violence on children, Lord? I’m asking for a friend who cannot understand the purpose of taking a life so young. She cannot find you in any of those acts and cannot seem to trust that you had a purpose. I gave her scripture, Lord. Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” But she kept asking why. So, I’m asking for a friend, Lord.
Why insects, Lord? I get the whole food chain, but really? Do I need to be a part of their food chain while I am alive? And while we are on the whole food chain, why snakes? Just asking for a friend, Lord. I have tried to understand the snake one myself.
Why are some sins acceptable while others are not? Okay, this one is not really one for you to answer because I understand you do not see a difference in sins. I guess I should ask whoever came up with a grading scale. I do not understand some sins, especially when they involve children. Lord, can you explain the how did we get there please? Just asking for a friend.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to see, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
There is a time for everything, and everything serves a purpose. We cannot rely on our limited understanding as to why things happen; however, we can rely on God to work things for His purpose. Philippians 1: 6 “And I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Genesis 50:20 “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” We cannot understand why or what the purpose is for many things in life, but these two verses reassure us that God will take the bad and turn it into something good.
By sharing your story, God will do a good thing. Sharing what you have been through will help others. My grief and my relying on God during that time, showed others God through grief. What can you show others from your pain? 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Not sometimes, not occasionally, but in all times.
